NEWS ontologies

Overview

Inside NEWS project, a set of ontologies have been developed. These ontologies describe the concepts involed in news domain and their relationships. Their design has been managed along with current standards for news content description, specially the ones consolidated by IPTC.

IPTC Standard Annotation, D2.3, where relations between the main modules of NEWS ontologies and the IPTC standards are explained.
NEWS Ontology II, D2.5, where the second version of the NEWS ontologies is presented.

Download Ontologies

These ontologies are the following:

Categorization ontology,subjectcodes.owl, containing the taxonomy for news item classification.
Management ontology, envelope_ont.owl, containing definitions of elements useful in the semantic annotation of news items with management metadata.
Content annotation metadata ontology, content_ont.owl, containing definitions of elements useful in the semantic annotation of news item contents.
SKOS redefined ontology, skos_redefined.rdf, with the elements used in the previous modules. This redefinition is needed in order to avoid the problems arisen in Protégé when this ontology is not accesible through the Web.
